The tARV consists of a wireless ultrasound scanner (currently Clarius PAHD3), custom thermoacoustic sensors, radiation detector, and data acquisition system. It provides thermoacoustic range estimates along with conventional ultrasound images of the treatment target during particle therapy. The tARV may be integrated with other research tools to enable motion management studies.
The acoustic matching layer of the ultrasound probe is surrounded by ARE’s sonar matching layer. Six receivers are embedded in the sonar matching layer.
A data acquisition (DAQ) system records six thermoacoustic channels plus radiation detector signals. Data is written to a micro SD card. Internal DAQ battery is charged via micro USB.
DISCLAIMER: The tARV is a research tool and is not yet authorized for patient care.
